10 hygiene rules for your makeup
(Not only) For Makeup Artists!Make up artist Vassia Papakonstantinou shares with us 10 rules that every professional make up artist should follow and we cal all use in our daily routine.
“Every professional in the field of aesthetics should have hygiene rules in priority. The direct contact we have with the skin, the face, the scalp, makes us responsible to ensure that any work on them will not cause any irritation, injury or even infection.
As a makeup artist I would like to share with you 10 basic hygiene rules for makeup. Lets see them:
1.Keep your brushes clean and sanitized.
Before every appointment your brushes should be fresh and clean. Keeping them in a case that closes can also help, so dust cannot reach them.
2.Wash and disinfect your hands before each makeup application
Personally, I love using my hands – always with the permission of my clients, so I prefer to have my nails always cut short. This ensures that I can clean them thoroughly and that there is no chance of injury.
3.Always use disposable mascara wands.
Consider that the reason we don’t choose to try mascara at a cosmetics store is because we don’t know if it has been used before us. Therefore, the same logic could not but be applied to the Kit of a Makeup Artist.
4.The brush or the disposable wand we have used should never get in touch with the product twice.
Apply an amount of product (liquid or creamy) on a stainless-steel pallet and then use it from there. For example, lipstick, lip-gloss or eyeliner.
5.Prefer powders in a loose form.
If our product is in a compact form, then spray it with 70% alcohol between the applications on different faces. This category includes face powders, eye shadows, blush, bronzers etc.
6.Do not blow your brushes or eyelash glue, with your mouth.
7.Make sure that everything is clean on their outer surface as well, such as the makeup bag, tools, products, etc.
8.A disposable mask is necessary in situations where, for example, we or the customer has something contagious. Today, due to Covid -19, the disposable mask must be used in any case.
9.If you want to use a brush on more than one person, on the same appointment, then in this case the brush must be cleaned and disinfected after each use. There are now special liquids on the market, which reduce the above process in 10 seconds.
10.Clean and disinfect your working surface or use a clean towel to place your products and tools on.
These rules ensure that you protect yourselves, your customers and your kit. Let’s create a safe and healthy environment, where everyone feels like nothing could go wrong even if it is one of the most important days of your lives, such as your wedding!”
